Disney On Ice: Spotlight Magic! Newark Theatre reviews
Joe Bonamassa
"I think Disney On Ice: Spotlight Magic!'s music is fantastic, with a brilliant Blues guitarist. The acoustic set was fabulous. However, the volume after the intermission was so loud that my eardrums were right at the pain threshold. Many of today's sound engineers follow the maxim: "the louder, the better", which I believe is wrong. It would be preferable to hear the music at the right volume, where all the nuance can be heard and the artist's singing is clear. I seriously thought my ear drums were going to start bleeding! A concert-goer should not need to wear earplugs to enjoy the music. I really expected to have an enjoyable experience after paying $120 per seat. Unfortunately, I was disappointed due to the excessive volume. We left before the encore to see if I could still hear. If they can control the volume, I would recommend this, as Disney On Ice: Spotlight Magic! is a brilliant guitarist."
Partial disappointment
Arriving early with excitement, we were eager to see Los Lobos, who had been advertised as part of the lineup since we got the tickets back in February. The opening performer, Gabe Dixon, mentioned casually after quite a few songs that Los Lobos would not be performing. No prior announcement or reason was provided by the venue. We had primarily come to see Los Lobos, so the disappointment was palpable. We wish the lawn seating was available again. Sitting in the hot, humid 90+ degree weather in the seats was far from ideal. The drinks were overly expensive, with one vodka lemonade costing $22 and water priced at $5.
